Zhelezobeton is a label and distributor of all sorts of experimental, noise, industrial and other not so conventional music. We release in small editions the music of our friends and distribute the releases of other labels which are more or less spiritually close to us. We have two sub-labels: Zhelezobeton Film for releasing video materials and Muzyka Voln for releasing music in more definite ambient/drone direction.

The Bureau Of Nonstandards - The Bureau Of Nonstandards
The Bureau of Nonstandards decided to present the performances without any further processing and even though this decision brings a nice charm to the the album it might scare off a lot of listeners who are used to more polished productions. Those who take the album for what it is will certainly enjoy the sound adventures and realize that the Bureau of Nonstandards's approach to music is quite nonstandard indeed.

The first in a planned trilogy of EPs, "O" and its successor, "(O)" (2009), are replete with much of the same: mournful, shimmering modulations, acoustic guitar and plaintive voice, all bundled together with lo-fi simplicity and a healthy measure of the open range to boot.

RMSonce - Reflections
As far as drones and experimental electronics are concerned, Francesc Martexcels. "Reflections" is this Barcelona artist's third release under the moniker RMSonce. Rather than being an indulgent drowning in monotonous layers of analogue drones and abstract, sampled noise, the nine-track album keeps us guessing. Generally accessible, short-format compositions make "Reflections" a good choice for the inquisitive, but perhaps too concise for the connoisseur in pursuit of detached, infinite spaces.

Dave Leach - Vendetta Music
The Denver-based Vendetta Music has been active as a music label since the mid-2000s and, since its inception, has accumulated a significant back-catalog of releases. It is home to a solid roster of artists from the field of dark electronics - from established acts like Xotox, Nachtmar, and W.A.S.T.E. to lesser-known ones like Necrotek, Mono-Amine and The Peoples Republic Of Europe. In addition to the label activity, Vendetta Music is also involved in the organization of music events, of which the most recent was the Vendetta Music Festival in September 2009.

Cullen Miller - Stolen Nature
Detroit/San Francisco sound designer Cullen Miller really has his head screwed on. You get the impression that he's never even heard of IDM when you filter through the press release surrounding this album, but that's what you get from the opening number which, as with all the other tracks, is 'untitled'. Subtle tones and instrumentation are dragged along with almost dub-like bass and are lifted with organic elements such as acoustic guitar, a gentle warm opening to an album that is immediately engaging.

This was the 'mixtape' that was submited to and accepted by Radio Zero for a participation in the Radio Futura initiative (the 'official' radio of the 2009 edition of Future Places digital media and online culture festival/meeting). The actual live radio broacast took place on October 17th between 6-7pm but, for those that missed it, here's the original submission, without any spoken comments.
Unfortunately, the exact tracklisting was never noted down (lame) and there's a couple of pieces that I can't identify anymore. Either way, this mix is bound to contain tracks by one or more of the following: Marching Dynamics, Hecq, Lucidstatic, Otto Von Schirach, Igorrr, Sickboy, Zeller, Faux Pride, Drumcorps, Glowstyx, Enduser, Le Diktat, Ten Data Keshin, Az-Rotator and a couple of others which I don't remember at the moment. If by any chance you think you can identify all the pieces in this mix, mail your tracklisting to info@connexionbizarre.net and we'll publish it if it is correct giving you credit (wow!).

The album is composed of tracks recorded live in Tokyo in May 2009 which have been cut up and remixed with the intention of to creating new material whilst maintaining the live feel inherent in the original tracks.

'True Industrial Freedom' is a term bandied about by this relatively new act on the scene to describe their contribution to industrial and harsh electro music. A loftier ideal, perhaps, than club popularity, but their latest release, "Blindness", is more likely to be remembered for the latter than the former.

Roughly once a year, the German label has released an installment of "Whiteline", their DJ-oriented 12" vinyl compilation series. Like its predecessors, "Whiteline Vol. III" features a selection of tracks by established acts and lesser-known or new and upcoming artists from several points in the world. This time around, Aentitainment presents tracks by Igorrr, Mobthrow, Ebola, Larvae and Hello.JPG.

The eleventh full-length release from Mark Spybey, an album which is an odyssey of sounds that will evoke soothing and agitated responses. Spybey has mastered the fine art of experimental music by never teetering at the brink of chaos too long and drawing in the listener with classical elements heard through new ears. A treat for the loyal fan and an impressive range of genres for the newcomers that will not soon be forgotten.

A dramatic, if not tragic, story is being told here - but you can always invent your own and the cinematic arrangement of the sound seems to invite this. Still, although this is a unique and intriguing work that's perfect for atmospheric late night listening, there's a sense that it could have gone further and transcended its sources more fully, rather than simply running through them.

Although Pål Asle Pettersen's work is full of dramatic and even perverse shifts and transitions it implies a challenge to the way in which we increasingly form instant judgements on music. It can't easily be assimilated in a sitting and demands some attentive repeat listening in order to (try) and piece together what's actually happening.

Thunderwheel - Credo
Overall fantastic, bizarre, uneasy, absurd, and tortured, some of which may reflect the environment in which it is produced. It's hard to tell how much of this is deliberately humorous or excessively kitsch or whether Gusis simply couldn't restrain himself from over-indulging. In any case, although this is interesting it doesn't match the finer moments of Agnivolok or Chaos As Shelter.

While not terribly familiar with 15 Degrees Below Zero and liking some of their previously released material, the same cannot be said of "Resting On A", unfortunately. To be honest, one is sort of at a loss as to why anyone would release this and it can be summed up quite quickly in one word: pointless.

Dessau - The Truth Hurts (1985-2000)
The title is really quite appropriate, in some respects - one fails to understand exactly why this retrospective is necessary, and indeed, who is really going to be that interested other than treating this as a relic from the past. A long-forgotten band who were too similar to some of their much more successful and more creative contemporaries to warrant too much attention, and their best known work is a cover.

the M.E.M.O.R.Y. Lab - Modern Expressing Machines of Revolutionary Youth
It was initially difficult to know what to make of this, but when you dig into who is behind the band, you begin to expect much more. Marc Urselli is a three-time Grammy Award winner, and the other members have been involved in such extreme metal luminaries as Aborym. So really, they can surely do so much better than this.

Sometimes it feels like 'Sturqen' has been jamming away, furiously twisting knobs of various angry synths and cutting out the best bits for us to enjoy. At times the tracks seem to be overtaken by waves of nasty feedback. This does intensify the listening experience, but it also makes it hard to sit through the album in one go.

"Need the Needle" is one of those releases that in addition to sounding genuine are bound to have some sort of mainstream appeal as well. Easily one of the standout albums of 2009 and a project to keep an eye out for in the future.

Tapage - Fallen Clouds
No time is wasted, resulting in an absorbing listen that demands - and gets - your attention for the whole time. Not an album to buy for calming background music, as while on the surface it sounds like it would be, it is nothing of the sort. Instead it is worth investing hours in listening to this a few times to begin to reveal the delights contained within, as it certainly won't work its full magic the first time around.

Together, producers Jonathan Uliel Saldanha (a.k.a. HHY) and Nyko Esterle (a.k.a. Ripit), having purportedly sequestered themselves in a mountain studio in Portugal, engendered an unforgettable exegesis of post-hip hop norms (if such exist) and pushed the envelope for this genre with startling ferocity. "Landform" won't disappoint.

Unmistakably urban, "Black Brothel" is an album with a story to tell, a story which takes place between dimly-lit, smoke-filled basements, littered with the remains of cigarette ash and last week's spilled whiskey, and the dark corners of a delirious mind plagued by creeping paranoia. It is the aural equivalent of a post-modern noir thriller.

While the "SCIENTific technOLOGY" EP was undeniably political in nature, "Anonymous" seems likely to tread on less toes - especially in non-German-speaking countries, where the majority of people won't have the faintest clue of what they're singing about... In all, it's a far more accessible album, and one that will undoubtedly garner further well-deserved recognition for Tyske Ludder.

If you are into ambient textures, nice and lightweight sounds that could actually lift you from the ground if you get into it for too long, then it's great stuff. My suggestion is to turn on the Discovery channel and watch the fish swim through the sea, sit back, put Accomplice Affair on the headphones and enjoy total bliss as it drives your mind into the ocean.

In terms of genre, Exocet operates a subtle blend between rhythmic industrial/power noise and electronica. One could say this has been done many times before by other acts in this scene, but Exocet can be said to really have a trademark sound of its own.

Utilizing the requisite field recordings, found sounds, CD/tape/vinyl manipulations, etc., Violet presents listeners with an album both disquieting in its peacefulness and jarring in its white noise banality. It is not so much mentally invasive as vaguely irritating, lacking the essential cohesion necessary in an experimental/drone record and likely far more interesting in terms of creative process than actual listenability.

Also, as a first release for the young Greek label Impulsive Art, this album raises the bar pretty high for upcoming releases.

I really liked listening to "Eurêka", from beginning to end. It somehow captivated me, because it was so nicely mixed and has a fluid sequence that actually proves the artist's ability to manipulate ambient drones, textures, some little beats and some percussion elements layered with nice, chilled synths, as well as proves his ability to vary sounds.

It is clear a lot of effort has been put into this album, and as a result it contains many accomplished and enjoyable pieces of music. But over the full album, For Greater Good appear to cover slightly too many bases, sounding like two or three related projects, and at times certain unsuccessful experiments seem to bring quality levels down slightly.

Documents a live performance by Noises of Russia in St. Petersburg and a musical departure from the death industrial commonly associated with Noises Of Russia - offering instead improvised collages of field recordings from nature, treated instruments, shamanistic chants and sparse industrial noises. Together they form a soundscape which conveys an impression of the performance as a very esoteric experience.

"Ontology" is a gorgeous piece of work, with massive emphasis on mood, but its presence is somewhat muted and tentative, hardly as sure of itself as previous works. A pity, really, because this is one talented artist indeed, and this recording doesn't quite fulfill expectations based on his previous offerings. It's still very good, though, just difficult to listen to.

This work's final result are three long untitled tracks, meditative and disturbing at the same time, which will please all the lovers of the ambient-noise and drone genres - all those who enjoy good sound design more than any kind of enchanting melodies or pounding beats.

Niko Skorpio - Psylocibe Necrophilia
Based on a pretty unusual concept: the raw materials used for all of its tracks are old tapes of the artist's early bands from the 80's (essentially heavy metal demos and live bootlegs), which have been completely destroyed, cut, re-edited and processed to eventually obtain some brand new material, which absolutely doesn't sound like heavy metal anymore, but more fits into the dark ambient and drone genres.

Taphephobia - Anomie
On one side of the coin they hit the nail on the head and are gripping, intriguing and magical; on the flip side they drift a little too much into the mundane and dull. The best parts of this album, however, do make up for a lot of their failings.

Ministry of Rites - Grid
When Ministry of Rites do get it right (and they have the ability), it is genuinely engaging and listenable; it's just that fifty percent of the time they just seem to faff about too much. Something for those with very eclectic tastes that disappointingly just comes somewhere short of approaching other audiences and fails.

Each track plods along somewhere between whimsy and melancholy without ever really breaching the boundaries of either. With the short track lengths (nothing makes it to four minutes), there is not much time for building or evolution. I'd say the biggest flaw here is that none of the tracks really go anywhere. It's just a collection of sort-of-interesting-sounds that play for a while and then stop.

Although it is probably closer to electronica than the output Goedrijk is known for, "Pellicules" is so beautifully conceived and executed with such precision that it draws the attention. Deceptively addictive, this album really is a cohesive exploration of a concept that couldn't be further from the collection of discarded ideas or sounds if was conceived from.

This Morn' Omina - Momentum of Singular Clarity
With this release a lot of people will focus on the vocal element as it's a really rather unexpected addition; although the tracks without vocals show more interesting range, one can see the "Momentum" tracks being very popular. It's interesting to see that This Morn' Omina have stepped out of their comfort sound and tried something different, something which will most certainly work well in a live setting.

"Expect the unexpected" could well be the motto for the Mash Up Records label and artists collective and their new release, the 5-track 12" compilation"Get A:Head" illustrates this quite well with a music selection that some would consider paradoxical.

Contagious Orgasm - One Drop Water
Whereas Japan is often more well known for its impossibly extreme noise scene, certain bizarre artists such as Contagious Orgasm have been operating for many years, throwing all manner of unexpected sounds into highly unique and often very infuriating compositions. But there comes a time when it really doesn't hurt to reign in those indulgent excesses and write some tunes, all within an experimental context of course.

l'Ascenseur - 40 Below
It could just be that he's been working on this first release for some time, honing each track until he's satisfied, but he does manage to avoid the pitfall, to which many electronica artists fall prey, of having common instrumentation running throughout. On "40 Below" each track is an entity in itself, not really part of a larger picture, and this is possibly the most positive aspect of the record.

For technicality, "InharmoniCity" is quite the achievement, and U.S.O. richly deserves any and all accolades they receive in this category.
