Interviews

C-dra.k.a. Kirdec - an interview with Cedrik Fermont
A Belgium based musician, producer and sometimes gig organizer and DJ who started to record industrial and noise music in 1989 with the band Crno Klank and since then played in many other projects and under different names and collaborated live or studio with many artists, in many styles such as electro-acoustic, noise, improv, digital punk, breakcore, electro and dark ambient.

C-dr- Syrphe
Syrphe (and Textolux) is a small label owned by C-drik (Crno klank, Ambre, Kirdec, Axiome, Tetra plok, Elekore and many others). It is mainly focused on electronic, experimental and noise music (in all meaning of the word) coming from all those lost islands the West seems to ignore: Africa, Asia, the Middle-East (...) but also C-drik's own productions.

Reviews

Metaform - Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants
While five years in the making, "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants" arrives as a soulful and decidedly charming journey across decades of musical innovation that defines the true essence of a great electronic record. Admittedly this is one of the coolest albums to have been released in quite some time. Fans of DJ Shadow, RJD2, U.N.K.L.E., and even Four Tet are sure to fall in love with this release.

ESA - The & The Silence
Decidedly an intense release, "The Sea & The Silence" isn't an easy ride, but it is immensely satisfying and entertaining, and perhaps it will give rhythmic noise the shake-up it desperately needs. One can only look forward to seeing what ESA comes up with next.

Zero Degree - The Inner Realm
"The Inner Realm" is an well rendered and mesmerizing release that should be able to bridge the gap between a number of electronic music styles and draw in fans because of its excellence rather than its strict adherence to any narrow categorization.

Heft vs. Scaffolding - We Will Diminish
Both artists are faultlessly professional, and the label deserves credit for putting two very leftfield tracks on the same release as two much more conventional slices of DJ fodder. And then giving it away for free...

Phragments - Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood
As a well-refined performance of Phragments' trademark musical styles, based for the most part in sombre dark ambient building to more bombastic martial classical passages with forceful industrial touches, "Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood" is arguably one of the best ways to capture an effective sense of the immense tragedy that is genocide.

Cacheflowe - Cache, Stacks & Queues EP
Hailing from Colorado, via the Plastic Sound Supply label, CacheFlow makes hip-hop-tinged dubstep, avoiding the dirtier fringes of that
genre in favour of more rounded analogue-style sounds and futuristic IDM glitch-beats.

Hansel - Reshaping Linear Formulai
Hansel show some very real promise here, there are some fantastic tracks available here, but I'd like to see them focus on their more digital hardcore sound, rather than try and mix it up with their slightly more restrained fare. It's enough of a taster to make me want to go check out their other stuff though, and that's good enough for me.

MMMF - In The Lab
MMMF characterizes itself as "never boring or foreseeable", and its musical methodology is something of an electronic melting pot, filled with sharp layering. If their music may be described as a bit conventional and whimsical, it's because "In the Lab" seems to be just that - superficially simple tracks with titles to match.

Combichrist - Today We Are All Demons
The fourth full-length from prolific producer Andy LaPlegua's electro-industrial incarnation, Combichrist, is nothing like what it could be. If it were a beverage, it would be Combichrist Lite - half the sleaze, none of the conviction.
